The first elementary school in Čakovec has been continuously celebrating the European Programming Week every autumn since 2014, when the European Commission launched an initiative to develop the digital competences of all EU citizens. European society is becoming multicultural and despite great differences in its history and diversity, it faces similar challenges. One of these challenges is to ensure a digitally mature society, with very well developed rapidly growing digital skills, education that will ensure the needs of future jobs and contribute to the development of a better and more responsible future with regard to cultural orientations, religions, social and economic status, or even age, sexual orientation etc.

Students of all ages and computer science teachers at our school, together with their partners across the EU, organized and conducted a series of activities celebrating creation with programming code. We readily accepted the challenge and joined the EU Code Week 4 All competition together with partner schools. Our school and all partner schools were awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Programming for their joint effort and work. We are especially proud to have been awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Programming for the third year in a row.
